This has mainly to do with the two latter-companies' use of very robust and well-tailored processing codecs which go beyond the old G.711 or 729 compression specifications in quality. Omitting any sort of review of of the Ooma system and reviewing only the HD3 Handset: The handset has a higher than typical (cordless phone) display. It is actually quite good.
